Twix Java

Twix Java – another twist to one of my all-time favorite chocolate bars. Looking at the wrapper, you may confuse it with the original Twix bar, but if you look closely the outer sides are a dark brown, coffee color. It is a limited edition flavor, so you might want to hurry on over to your nearest grocery store to grab yourself a bar before they disappear.

Out of the wrapper, these Twix Java bars look exactly like the original Twix bars. No surprise really since they are both made with milk chocolate. The difference lies in the filling. Staying true to the classic Twix’s form, the Twix Java is made up of the same stuff but is spruced up with an added coffee flavor. Rather than the regular biscuit-like cookie and caramel, the Twix Java is made of a chocolate cookie and coffee caramel. So the java coffee flavor lies in the caramel itself.

As for the flavor, it tastes really good. The coffee flavor is not too strong as it is mixed in with the caramel, but it matches well with the sweetness of the milk chocolate and caramel. It is a must try for Twix and coffee lovers out there. You can try finding them at Wal-Mart (where I found mine) or if you can’t find them locally, they’re sold on Amazon.

World’s Largest Chocolate Bar

Posted In: News

13 Sep 2010

October is usually known for trick or treating and filling up with loads of bite sized, fun sized, and snack sized candies. However, this October the monster of all chocolate bars (for now) will be available to the public for free. There is just one little catch. To get your hands on a piece of the world’s largest 9,702 pound chocolate bar, you would have to be in Yerevan, Armenia on October 16. If you are lucky enough to be there, you will be able to bite into a gigantic chocolate bar made up of 70 percent cocoa mass and all natural ingredients.

Until then, feast your eyes on these scrumptious pictures.

Browsing through candy at checkout counters, the only thing I usually find in tin containers are mints. But then I came across these Wonka Exceptionals Fruit Marvels which aren’t mints at all. Instead, they are pomegranate flavored hard candies. Found in round, purple tin containers, the design on the front gives off this old fashioned circusy appeal.

Inside, there are about 16 round shaped fruit marvels. Each are pink and completely covered with hardened sugar crystals. They almost look sour, but when you pop one in your mouth, you get nothing but sweetness. They feel hard giving you the feeling that you have to suck on them for awhile, but surprisingly, you can bite into it and the solid outer layer crumbles pretty easily. Then comes the soft, jelly center. It has a sweet pomegranate flavor and is soft but not too soft where it will stick to your teeth.

The flavor of the Wonka Exceptionals Fruit Marvels is good, but not exceptional. Although I can easily eat the entire tin, the flavor doesn’t pop enough for me to want more. Now, if they dusted the Fruit Marvels with sour crystals rather than sugar, I am pretty sure I would find them a lot more enjoyable. Aside from the okay flavor, I really like how the texture goes from a hard shell to a soft chewy center. While the texture is great, it cost me around $1.99 which I think is pricey for average tasting Fruit Marvels.

M&M’s Pretzel

Posted In: Chocolate| Mars

16 Jun 2010

I saw a blue bag of M&M’s at my local grocery store and almost ignored them thinking they were the old M&M’s Crispy. Good thing I took a closer look since they are actually the new M&M’s Pretzel. On the bag is a cute picture of the Orange M&M holding up an X-Ray screen that shows he has a pretzel inside of him. If you’re one to care about the colors, the bag I bought had four M&M colors – red, blue, orange and green. The M&M’s website also lists brown as one of the available colors, but I have yet to find a bag with one in it.

The M&M’s Pretzel are round and slightly smaller than M&M’s Peanut. Inside each M&M is a decent sized pretzel ball. When I took my first bite, I noticed two things going on. First, the cracker-like texture of the pretzel is refreshing and different from all the other M&M’s. Along with a satisfying crunch, the pretzel also brings a salty pretzel flavor. You have the sweetness of the chocolate M&M’s mixing with the salty pretzels. The outer M&M chocolate layer isn’t thick, but it gives just the right amount of a sweet chocolate flavor to allow the saltiness of the pretzel to come into play.

Overall, these M&M’s Pretzel are my new favorite M&M’s. I really like how they chose salted pretzels over unsalted ones since the salty and sweet combination bring a nice play on the tongue. One thing I have to gripe about is that I bought a regular bag for $1, which I think is ridiculous considering I could buy a king sized bag of candy for around the same price. I later realized they aren’t all overpriced because I found them for much cheaper at Target.

I have been wanting to try Cow Tales but never managed to find them at the store. That is, until I spotted Mini Vanilla Cow Tales at the Dollar Tree. They are made by Goetze’s Candy Company which is known for their caramel candy. They have several flavors of Cow Tales available – Vanilla, Strawberry, Chocolate and Caramel Apple. The Mini Cow Tales are miniature versions of the vanilla flavor.

The Mini Vanilla Cow Tales I found are individually wrapped in an orange, theater sized candy box. Shaped like short Slim Jims, they are made up of chewy caramel with a vanilla cream center. I expected them to be really sweet, but surprisingly they weren’t. You can definitely eat a couple of them without overloading on sweetness. With every bite, the softness of the inner vanilla cream is the first to fade away, leaving you with the chewy caramel. The texture of the caramel is not one to be desired as it seems to be rolled in corn starch to keep the chewy caramel from being too sticky.

Overall, the Mini Vanilla Cow Tales are okay. I like that the floury texture keeps the Mini Vanilla Cow Tales from sticking to my teeth, but it still doesn’t leave a pleasant feeling in my mouth. After eating more and more, I do feel they are slowly growing on me. While I am still not sure if I will be buying more of the Mini Vanilla Cow Tales, I am definitely going to keep my eye out for the Strawberry Cow Tales which sound delicious!
