After seeing the commercial for the Dark Chocolate Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups several times, you can imagine my excitement when I spotted them at Walgreens for under a buck. For those who have been living under a rock, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are cups of milk chocolate with peanut butter centers. In this case, the milk chocolate is substituted for dark chocolate. Being a fan of dark chocolate, I had high hopes for the new Dark Chocolate Reese’s.
If you have had the regular Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, you already have an idea of what the dark chocolate variation tastes like. Taking a bite of the edge of the cup, being careful to only nip the dark chocolate, I could taste the sweetness of the dark chocolate.
However, taking a normal bite, the peanut butter overpowered the dark chocolate to the point where it tasted similarly to the original Reese’s. In fact, if I were blindfolded, I would not have noticed a difference.
Overall, while the Dark Chocolate Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups tastes great (just like the original), there is nothing new about it. Because of its similar taste to the original, I give it a rating of 3 out of 5.
