vosges mos bacon bar 1I have been craving chocolates lately, so expect the next few reviews to be on chocolates =D

Vosges Haut-Chocolat was founded by a woman named Katrina with the main objective of traveling the world through chocolate. She accomplished just that as Vosges is now known for its exotic chocolate bar flavors, such as Black Pearl (wasabi, ginger, sesame seeds, chocolate) or Naga (Indian curry, coconut, chocolate). This review in particular is on the Vosges Mo’s Bacon Bar. That’s right. Bacon. This milk chocolate bar is made with 45% cacao, applewood smoked bacon, and alderwood smoked salt. I love bacon and I love chocolate, but would I love them mixed together?

vosges mos bacon bar 2The bar of chocolate is made up of 8 squares, some with the Vosges Haut-Chocolat logo, and others with a picture of a lady holding a Vosges bag. I broke off one of the squares and could see bits of what looked like bacon in the chocolate. I took my first bite and it was sweet… salty… then sweet again. A rather nice play on the senses. At times, there was a hint of a bacon flavor and it was not overpowering at all. The inclusion of the alderwood smoked salt gave this Vosges Mo’s Bacon Bar its utterly delicious salty and sweet combination.

vosges mos bacon bar 3Overall, if I had to describe this chocolate bar in one word, I would say “Genius.” Simply because bacon is not a typical ingredient you would find in a bar of chocolate and you also would not expect it to taste this good. This Vosges chocolate bar does wonders, but it is reflected in its price. It costs $5.99 at World Market, but if you don’t have a World Market near you, you can find it on Amazon or their website. One thing is for sure though, “You get what you pay for,” so try one out for yourself and you’ll definitely be in for a treat.

Side note: if you’re a fan of dark chocolate like me, the Mo’s Bacon Bar is also available in a dark chocolate variation =D

My friend told me about how another friend of ours is also in Pasty & Baking Arts, and a classmate brought in Chocolate covered Bacon for the class to try out. For me, my reaction was more, “hmm, I wonder what that tastes like”, since Bacon is type ’salty’ and ‘crunchy’ and chocolate is ’sweet’ and ’smooth’ (when it melts in your mouth), so what came to my mind was, how I like Flipz, since the pretzels are salty and chocolate is sweet so it would taste yummy. As for my friend and BF, they think it sounds disgusting. But you know, there’s no harm in trying new and ‘weird’ things. Since you’ll be surprised how they actually turn out to taste. A classmate of mine during our ice cream lesson, created – black seseme seed with spicy ice cream. Sounds weird, but it actually tasted great together! LOL. (And you know, I can’t handle spicy)
