twilight new moon hearts desire chocolate 1Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

At the grocery store the other day I saw candy wrappers with Edward and Bella’s faces. Yup, that’s right. Twilight. Of course as a Twilighter myself, I had to pick up some of these Twilight Saga New Moon Skybar Chocolates. Apparently, there is also a Jacob wrapper but I couldn’t find it. Oh well. Who needs Jacob when you can have Edward? From the New England Confectionery Company (NECCO), The Twilight Saga New Moon edition Skybar is titled “Heart’s Desire.” Probably referring to the Jacob-Bella-Edward love triangle, but it could also be referring to the chocolates being your heart’s desire.

twilight new moon hearts desire chocolate 2I was expecting the Bella and Edward Skybars to have different designs but they didn’t. Both Skybars have two hearts placed vertically on top of each other. Underneath the hearts is what looks like a chocolate stand, making the entire design look like a tombstone. The heart on top has “Bella” crossed out. People unfamiliar with Twilight could easily mistake the “Bella” for “Betta.” Below that is another heart that has a crest with “Cullen” written on it and at the very bottom is the stand with the Skybar logo. Inside, the chocolates have this white goo which is a very sweet creme filling. Add that to the already sweet milk chocolate and you have one super sweet Skybar.

twilight new moon hearts desire chocolate 3These chocolates were only 30 cents each, but I was still disappointed about them not having separate designs for each character. Seems as if NECCO did the bare minimum to make money off the Twilight franchise. Overall, these New Moon “Heart’s Desire” Skybars are really cheap but are too sweet for my taste.

warheads watermelon blue raspberry double drops super sour liquid candyI love sour candy and Warheads candy have always been among my favorites. One of their new products called Warheads Double Drops is a bottle that has 30 ml of two sour flavors. The one I picked up contains watermelon and blue raspberry. Most Warheads products have a sour meter on the packaging showing how sour the candy is, but this bottle doesn’t have that. However, if you look closely, it does say “super sour liquid candy.” Let’s see if that holds true.

warheads watermelon blue raspberry double drops super sour liquid candy capThe Warheads Double Drops looks like two plastic containers stuck together that squeeze out liquid similar to eye droppers. It is small and compact and you don’t have to worry about it making a mess in your purse or pocket since it has a cap that stays firmly shut. In fact, inside the cap are two plastic tabs that keep the liquid from accidentally squeezing out when the cap is on.

So how did it taste? Let me start off by saying I have never been a huge fan of the flavor watermelon, but the watermelon half of the Warheads Double Drops was really, really good. The watermelon flavor isn’t too strong and the sourness definitely makes its presence known. Similarly, the blue raspberry flavor is, in a word, sourlicious (sour + delicious). I would equate the sourness to that of the Warheads Sour Spray in the previous post, so yes, “Super Sour” rating it is. Another thing you can do with the Warheads Double Drops is squeeze both sides to get both flavors at once. I did just that and I can’t say it tasted any better than squeezing out each side one at a time. Either way makes me happy =D

One thing to note, you can squeeze the bottle once to get 1-2 drops at a time, or squeeze down for a couple seconds to get more in your mouth. At one point, I squeezed down both sides for a long time, swallowed too much too fast and OUCH. Major pain. Haha. The pain eventually subsided and I was back to happiness, but a word of advice, be careful. Slow squirts are the way to go.

All in all, I heart these Warheads Double Drops <3. They cost about $1.59 and are a must try for my fellow sour candy lovers out there =D

black cherry warheads super sour spray candyWhen I bought the Skittles Spray Candy from the previous post, I had to also buy the Warheads Super Sour Spray Candy to compare them. According to the Warheads website, the Warheads Super Sour Spray Candy comes in four flavors – Green Apple, Watermelon, Blue Raspberry and Grape. However, make that five or possibly more flavors since the one I bought is black cherry flavored. Weird how companies do not update their websites. The Black Cherry flavored Warheads Super Sour Spray contains 20 ml and is rated “Super Sour” on the Warheads Sour Meter.

One thing I like about this sour spray is it’s easy opening. A simple twist of the cap and you’re ready to start spraying. Unlike the Skittles Spray Candy, the Black Cherry Warheads Super Sour Spray took about 15-20 pumps before anything came out of it. The spray itself is more of a direct squirt which is nice. As for the flavor, if you’ve ever had the regular Black Cherry Warheads hard candy, it tastes exactly like that. A cherry flavor with a slight twist. Keep in mind that this spray has a super sour rating and when Warheads say super sour, they mean super sour. Since it is a spray, the black cherry sourness only lasts for a couple seconds before it is gone. So I can sit here forever spraying to keep the delicious sourness going.

Overall, the Black Cherry Warheads Super Sour Spray Candy was more sour than the Green Apple Sour Skittles Spray, but I found that I liked it just as much. To make things even better, I bought it at Walgreens and didn’t find out till later that it was on sale and only rang up as 35 cents! Don’t you just love unexpected surprises like that?

Skittles Spray Candy

In: Fruity| Mars| Sour

13 Nov 2009

As a huge fan of Skittles, I was thrilled to find Skittles Spray Candy. There is no information about these on the Skittles website since they are licensed by Candyrific. From what I saw at the store, there are sprays available from two Skittles varieties – Skittles Original Fruit and Skittles Sour. I bought three flavors – original strawberry, sour blue raspberry, and sour green apple.

skittles spray strawberry and blue raspberryThe first one I bought was a sweet and sour pack, which contains two Skittles Spray Candy. Each bottle contains 20 ml. Of all the flavors available, I chose two flavors I really like – strawberry from the Skittles Original Fruit variety and blue raspberry from Skittles Sour. Both of these sprays look fun and delicious. They are both compact, so you can easily store them in your purse or pocket for a splash of Skittles goodness whenever or wherever you desire.

The blue raspberry flavor is my second favorite flavor from the original Skittles Sour pack, so I was excited to try the spray candy. However, after trying it, I was completely let down. Although the taste is bearable, I don’t think it tastes anything like the actual Blue Raspberry Skittle. There is a hint of a blue raspberry flavor, but if I had not known beforehand, I would never have guessed the actual flavor. To make things worse, it wasn’t even sour. Granted, I do eat a lot of sour candy, so what may not be sour to me, might be sour for others.

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Even though the Blue Raspberry Sour Skittles Spray Candy wasn’t that great, I still had high hopes for the Strawberry Spray Candy. It took about two to three sprays to get the candy going, but when it did, I wasn’t too happy. Although it does taste like the strawberry flavor from the Skittles Original Fruit assortment, it just doesn’t taste good in liquid form. When I sprayed it, I was first hit with the sweet strawberry flavor. The sweetness was a little too much, giving the liquid a thicker feel, reminiscent of liquid medicine.

skittles sour green apple spray candyNow for my ultimate Sour Skittles flavor – Green Apple. The spray candy I bought was the Green Apple Sour Skittles Light Up Spray Candy. The light up spray does not come in a pack of two, but is slightly bigger as it contains 30 ml. Also, it has this neat light up feature that I didn’t notice until after I bought the candy. Towards the bottom of the bottle, you can push a button to light up the inside of the bottle to match the flavor. In this case, the bottle lit up as green. One thing I noticed about this bottle in particular is that it sprays in a wide mist. skittles sour green apple light up spray candyI don’t like having to worry about it getting all over my face, so rather than a mist, I would have preferred more of a direct squirt. Regardless, the flavor was amazingly delicious. It is wonderfully sour and tastes just like the actual Sour Apple Skittles.

Rating: ★★★★☆

For $3 for all three of the Skittles Spray Candy, only the sour green apple flavor brought a smile to my face. In the end, I think the spray is a good idea, but the reason why I am a fan of Skittles is because of the chewiness and texture of the traditional Skittles.

m&ms premiumsThere is a new line of M&M’s chocolate candies called M&M’s Premiums. According to their website, there are five flavors – triple chocolate, dark chocolate, chocolate almond, mint chocolate, and raspberry almond. At the store, I did indeed find five flavors, but instead of the dark chocolate listed on the website, I found a Mocha flavored one. Maybe the website is wrong and there isn’t a dark chocolate flavor, or perhaps there are actually six flavors out there? Either way, these M&M’s Premiums are different from your regular bags of M&M’s. They are fancied up in hourglass-shaped boxes and are also more expensive at the cost of about $5 a box.

m&ms premiums raspberry almondBeginning with the Raspberry Almond M&M’s Premiums, I have to say they look very appealing. Inside the red box is a clear bag with different sized egg-shaped M&M’s, some small and some big, depending on the actual size of the inner almond. Their color is what makes them appealing as they are of a metallic pink color with black speckles. When I opened the bag I could instantly smell the raspberry flavor. As someone who is not big on chocolate with fruity insides, I honestly was not expecting to like these. However, these turned out to be rather good. The raspberry flavor is apparent in every bite, but the almond offsets the raspberry flavor keeping it from taking over the chocolate. Each almond is wrapped in raspberry flavored white chocolate which is then covered with a layer of dark chocolate. Although delicious, I couldn’t distinguish the white chocolate from the dark chocolate, but biting it in half, the separate chocolate layers look pretty neat. Overall, a must try.

M&M’s Premiums Raspberry Almond - Rating: ★★★★★

m&ms premiums triple chocolateThe Triple Chocolate M&M’s Premiums are packaged in a purple box. Inside, the M&M’s are big, circular, metallic purple with metallic blue speckles. As you might have already guessed by the triple chocolate flavor, each M&M has three layers of chocolate – milk, white and dark. I sucked on one and could taste the M&M going from dark to white to milk chocolate. However, I wouldn’t recommend eating them that way, as it didn’t taste like anything special. Each chocolate layer, including the dark, was very sweet. Chewing on the Triple Chocolate Premium M&M’s, I wasn’t able to differentiate the three different types of chocolate, but there definitely was some happiness going on in my mouth. They are similar to Plain M&M’s as they have nothing inside except chocolate, but these M&M Premiums are bigger and therefore have more chocolate with each bite. I am not sure whether it is attributable to the bigger size or the three different chocolate layers, but the Triple Chocolate M&M’s Premiums are a step up from Plain M&M’s.

M&M’s Premiums Triple Chocolate - Rating: ★★★☆☆

m&ms premiums mint chocolateNow for the Mint Chocolate M&M’s Premiums. They are metallic green speckled with black and come packaged in a green box. Shape-wise, they are exactly like the Triple Chocolate Premiums – circular and bigger than Plain M&M’s. Upon opening the bag, I was instantly hit with a whiff of the mint chocolate, reminding me of mint chocolate chip ice cream. Yum. Better than the smell was the actual taste. Double Yum. They are like Andes Mints but in M&M’s form. Each M&M has a white chocolate mint center wrapped with dark chocolate. After eating some, my throat was left with a cool, minty feel. A pleasant sensation only adding to the delicious-ness of the Mint Chocolate M&M’s Premiums.

M&M’s Premiums Mint Chocolate - Rating: ★★★★☆

m&ms premiums mochaNext flavor – Mocha M&M’s Premiums. Just like the color of coffee, the Mocha M&M’s Premiums are sold in brown boxes. The M&M’s themselves are metallic bronze with black speckles, my personal favorite color of the Premiums line. I opened the bag expecting them to smell like coffee, but surprisingly, they just smelled like chocolates. Unlike the previous M&M’s Premiums, the mocha flavor consists of only milk chocolate. The Mocha M&M’s have a mere hint of the mocha flavor, which is a little disappointing. The mocha flavor is there but easily gets lost within the milk chocolate. Don’t get me wrong, it is still good, but I could have done with more mocha.

M&M’s Premiums Mocha - Rating: ★★★☆☆

m&ms premiums chocolate almondThe last flavor I have is the Chocolate Almond M&M’s Premiums. Packaged in a blue box, the first color that comes to mind when looking at the M&M’s themselves is cerulean, my favorite crayon color as a kid (high five if you know what I am talking about). They are metallic blue (or cerulean =D) with dark midnight blue speckles. I find it interesting that they chose plain ol’ almond milk chocolate when they already have a regular Almond M&M’s product. They should have gone with something different, such as chocolate hazelnut, or at least have made it dark chocolate almond or white chocolate almond. Also, why make both a raspberry almond and a chocolate almond flavor? Possibly for people, like me, who do not like fruity chocolate? Regardless, I found the Chocolate Almond M&M’s Premiums to be average tasting. So, even with not being a fan of chocolate with fruity flavors, I very much prefer the raspberry almond flavor over the chocolate almond.

M&M’s Premiums Chocolate Almond - Rating: ★★★☆☆

The entire M&M’s Premiums line looks very attractive, but unfortunately have my invisible expensive seal stamped on them. One thing to note is that inside each box, the M&M’s are contained in a resealable bag. So, each bag has a hole covered with a cute, resealable sticker that says “simply fabulous…always fun.” For $5, I would recommend trying the Raspberry Almond and Mint Chocolate flavors. The rest are up to you to try at your own risk =D
