Pieces Wrapper Reward Program

Hershey’s is having a Wrapper Reward Program to promote its new Pieces candy, which I assume is just like Reese’s Pieces but bigger. They come in four flavors – Reese’s Pieces, Almond Joy Pieces, Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate Pieces, and York Pieces. Go to their website, download their form, and be one of the first 25,000 to mail in the form along with ONE, full wrapper from either Reese’s, Almond Joy, Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate, or York and you will get a coupon mailed back to you for one free bag of their new Pieces candy.

Bali’s Best Tea Candy – Classic Iced Tea, Citrus Green Tea, and Green Tea Latte

I have seen a lot of coffee candy in the past, but rarely have I seen tea candy. At my local Asian grocery store, I found Bali’s Best Tea Candy and was immediately intrigued. There are three flavors – Classic Iced Tea, Citrus Green Tea and Green Tea Latte. They are all infused with real green tea extract grown in Java, Indonesia. Now, as an avid tea drinker, green tea just happens to be my favorite =D
This tea candy unfortunately doesn’t come in one bag with all three flavors, so I ended up buying three separate bags. Each bag is about $2 and has 42 individually wrapped hard candies. There is caffeine in each candy, but it only amounts to a mere 3 milligrams. It would take you 20-25 pieces to equal one cup of coffee. So those who need a quick caffeine fix, these tea candies are not the way to go. Now on to how it actually tastes.
I started with what sounded like the most basic flavor – the Classic Iced Tea. Looking at the round, brown hard candy, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. When I popped one into my mouth, I was happy to find that it tasted exactly like any typical iced tea you would order at a restaurant. I usually like my iced tea without sugar, but Bali’s Best Classic Iced Tea Candy comes already sweetened with sugar. However, the sweetness of it does not take away from the delicious flavor of the tea. Just like the flavor name, it merely tastes like classic iced tea.
Classic Iced Tea - Rating: 
Now for the next flavor, the Citrus Green Tea. This candy looks exactly like the last one, but green. My first taste reminded me of lemon tea with honey. I was disappointed to find that I could not distinguish the green tea flavor. To me, it tastes like Bali’s Best Classic Iced Tea with a lemon flavor that I am not too fond of. I would have much preferred a more pronounced green tea flavor without so much of the lemon taste.
Citrus Green Tea - Rating:
The last Bali’s Best Tea Candy is a greenish-brown, Green Tea Latte flavor. Similar to real lattes, this Green Tea Latte candy contains milk. Yet again, I could barely taste the green tea flavor after eating one. Trying really hard to pick the green flavor out, the “so close, but yet so far” phrase comes to mind. Regardless, I have to say the flavor is actually quite good. Although it is a tea candy, it is a step away from tasting like coffee.
Green Tea Latte - Rating:
Bali’s Best Tea Candies are all pretty good. If it were up to me, I’d leave the Classic Iced Tea flavor the way it is, but change the other two flavor names to Lemon Tea and Milk Tea.

I love tea and I love chocolate, so what better way to enjoy both than to eat this chocolate bar called Organic Masala Chai. Made from the company Rimann & Associates, the brand The Tea Room encompasses a wide range of tea infused organic chocolates. In this case, an organic milk chocolate bar infused with black masala chai tea. When I first read “masala,” I thought of this Indian dish called chicken masala. A quick search and I found that Masala Chai is translated in Hindi to “Spiced Tea.” The spices are a combination of ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, peppercorn and cloves.
The chocolate bar is in a gold wrapper and tucked into a purple box. There is nothing really fancy about the chocolate bar itself. No fancy decorations on the chocolate, just 15 segmented bars. With my first bite, I mainly tasted really sweet milk chocolate and a hint of spices. Somewhere within the hint of spices, I could taste cinnamon and chai tea. One thing I disliked is the milk chocolate itself as it was really sweet and practically went to mush in my mouth.
Overall, this is an okay bar of chocolate with a major plus for it being organic. I would have opted for more of a pronounced Masala Chai flavor and maybe better quality chocolate. I did, however, put the chocolate in the fridge and that seemed to help with the chocolate texture. For the price of about $4, I would not buy this particular chocolate bar again, but I am interested in trying The Tea Room’s other organic tea-infused chocolate bars.

I have never been a huge fan of 3 Musketeers, but I recently saw a commercial for the 3 Musketeers Mint with dark chocolate and got myself a bar. From looking at the wrapper, apparently the Mars Company wants to emphasize that this bar is “45% less fat” than your average chocolate bar since it is printed not once, but twice. Don’t be fooled, chocolate is still chocolate and this 3 Musketeers Mint bar still has 150 calories.
Inside the wrapper, I was surprised to find two bars instead of one. I don’t know the purpose of why they chose to break the bar into two halves, but it is great for portion control if you decide to eat one now and the other later. Or, if you’re sharing with someone, you can each get an equal share of the bar. Biting into the 3 Musketeers Mint, the first thing I noticed was how this bar stayed true to the 3 Musketeers brand and kept its fluffiness. For this mint bar in particular, the fluffiness adds to the bar’s deliciousness as it keeps the mint flavor from overpowering the chocolate. So you are left with a dark chocolate bar with this light fluffy mint flavor.
Overall, this is a great mint chocolate bar. I think the mint fluffiness is perfect as the mint is not too strong, but still present enough to give the minty cool sensation that I love. I bought the bar for 54 cents at my local grocery store, but I did notice that this bar is a lot thinner than your average bar of chocolate. So does that mean it is “45% less fat” because it is a smaller bar? Regardless, I hope this 3 Musketeers Mint with dark chocolate bar is here to stay, for I will definitely be buying more.

Loading ...Guylian Dark Orange Chocolate

Whenever I shop for new candy, I usually go for candy with wrappers that look visually appealing to me. This Guylian Dark Orange chocolate bar caught my eye, not by its tempting wrapper, but because of three words: “No Sugar Added.” Instead of sugar, the Guylian bar is sweetened with maltitol (aka Maltisweet), which is a sugar substitute that has fewer calories. However, don’t be fooled, the bar still isn’t good for your diet and excessive consumption of maltitol can have a laxative effect. Personally, I have been working through an entire Guylian Dark Orange bar and so far, no complications =D
Now on to the flavor. The dark chocolate itself isn’t bitter nor is it sweet. Whenever I eat it though, I taste a slight bitterness which I think comes from the orange flavoring. The orange flavor can make the chocolate taste bitterer than it really is. At first, I wasn’t a fan of this chocolate bar. Even the orange scent coming from the bar wasn’t appealing to me.
In the end, the Guylian Dark Orange bar slowly grew on me. I still don’t think orange and chocolate make the best combination, but it isn’t absolutely disgusting either. At $3.59, the Guylian bar is pretty darn pricey. For the same price, I could easily find another chocolate bar more suited for me.
