That is, until I spotted Mini Vanilla Cow Tales at the Dollar Tree. They are made by Goetze’s Candy Company which is known for their caramel candy. They have several flavors of Cow Tales available – Vanilla, Strawberry, Chocolate and Caramel Apple. The Mini Cow Tales are miniature versions of the vanilla flavor.

The Mini Vanilla Cow Tales I found are individually wrapped in an orange, theater sized candy box. Shaped like short Slim Jims, they are made up of chewy caramel with a vanilla cream center. I expected them to be really sweet, but surprisingly they weren’t. You can definitely eat a couple of them without overloading on sweetness. With every bite, the softness of the inner vanilla cream is the first to fade away, leaving you with the chewy caramel. The texture of the caramel is not one to be desired as it seems to be rolled in corn starch to keep the chewy caramel from being too sticky.

Overall, the Mini Vanilla Cow Tales are okay. I like that the floury texture keeps the Mini Vanilla Cow Tales from sticking to my teeth, but it still doesn’t leave a pleasant feeling in my mouth. After eating more and more, I do feel they are slowly growing on me. While I am still not sure if I will be buying more of the Mini Vanilla Cow Tales, I am definitely going to keep my eye out for the Strawberry Cow Tales which sound delicious!

It is packaged in a very pretty gold and bronze bag, which contains 12 individually wrapped pieces. Compared to the Dark Chocolate Truffle Gems, these Dark Chocolate Caramel Gems are also about $4 but are square shaped, instead of round. It obviously takes up less space, but yet, only a dozen were in the bag. I bet they could have fit at least 30 of these delicious gems.

The outer chocolate layer is a rich, sweet dark chocolate. The sweet caramel is soft and easy to bite into. One thing I really like about these Dark Chocolate Caramel Gems is that I don’t get caramel goo stuck to my teeth whenever I eat them. But since the caramel is already super sweet, I would have preferred a touch more bitterness to the dark chocolate.

Overall, great caramel dark chocolate for caramel lovers out there. Don’t fret milk chocolate lovers, there’s a milk chocolate line out there for you too. If you don’t like really soft caramel, you can always refrigerate them first.

Because of its colorful packaging, I thought it might be some fruity candy, but at closer look, I realized it was Cadbury brand milk chocolate with caramel. Not only is the “Curly Wurly” name interesting, but even its shape is longer and thinner than the average chocolate bar.

The Curly Wurly is a long strip of milk chocolate with an inner layer of caramel. It is very thin and has a unique design with a lot of holes. The bar feels very fragile and limp, but is also very stretchy from the caramel filling. It tastes good, but not great. Of course, the milk chocolate and caramel go together very well, but it wasn’t anything special. It tastes like Twix, but without the cookie filling. So, you can imagine how “empty” the Curly Wurly tastes.

My overall impression of the Curly Wurly bar is that apart from its eye-catching packaging, the actual taste is very average. The caramel is soft and chewing the bar made the caramel stick to my teeth, so I ended up just sucking on the Curly Wurly instead. For about a dollar, it won’t hurt you to try it, especially if you are a caramel fanatic. If you too prefer hardened caramel, you can always put it in your fridge before eating.

These chocolates were good from the first bite on. Overall, the Reese’s Select Clusters tasted exactly like the original Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups except with the addition of tiny pecan and peanut chunks. Since the pecans and peanuts were chopped small, I really couldn’t tell which nut was which when I was eating them. Regardless, the nuts added that bit of crunch and were a great addition.

Due to the summer heat, I ate these Reese’s Select Clusters when they were slightly melted which made them deliciously soft and easy to bite into. I later threw them in the fridge and found that I liked them better. When they were cold, the hardened center really brought out the caramel in the chocolates.

If you like the original Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, you’ll definitely enjoy these =D

I went with my brother to Target to buy another Xbox 360, and of course, I had to drop by the candy aisle. Target’s selection of candy has always made me happy and I’ve never left their candy aisle empty-handed. So on this visit, I came across Twixels, a variation of the ever so popular Twix chocolate bars. Although they have three flavors – creamy caramel, triple chocolate & French vanilla – the only flavor at this particular Target was creamy caramel, which of course sounds like the regular Twix bar. So what made this different? According to the box, 35 calories per stick.

These Twixels are packaged in a tray that you can slide out similar to cookies. Inside are about 16 sticks that are not individually wrapped. Upon first opening, my immediate thought was that these Twixels are tiny. I mean TINY. The box does say “slender cookie sticks,” but I never imagined them to be this slender. So if you are thinking these are the healthy alternative to Twix bars, you are fooling yourself. These Twixels are 35 calories per stick merely because the sticks themselves are not only thinner than regular Twix bars, but they’re also shorter in length. Talk about portion control.

In comparison to regular Twix bars, these Twixels taste pretty much like regular Twix bars. However, I do notice a slightly different taste coming from the cookie itself, but not enough of a difference to matter. Despite their small size, they still have a slight crunch to them.

I gave these Twixels a rating of 3 considering there isn’t much distinguishing these from its Twix counterpart other than the size and packaging. Therefore, I can’t justify paying $2.99 (Target price) for this box of Twixels when I can get my regular Twix fix for under a dollar. Of course, if price isn’t an issue and you’re looking for smaller portions of your favorite Twix chocolate bars, you can get these Twixels, provided that you can limit yourself to just one or two in one sitting =D
