Growing up in Japan, the Meiji Apollo Strawberry Chocolates were one of my favorites. So they are not new to me, but I feel it is my duty to share with you the pleasures of eating these chocolates. They can be found at Asian grocery stores, but specifically Japanese stores. They cost a little under a dollar with plenty of strawberry chocolate goodies inside.
The packaging is a small, cute box with strawberries printed all over it. The chocolates themselves are shaped like fancy cones with the chocolate brown color on the bottom and the strawberry pink color covering the top. Matching its cute appearance, is its wonderful taste. There is nothing hidden inside these chocolates. It is a solid milk chocolate and strawberry cream. They manage to maintain their shape in the box, but easily melt in your mouth giving you this creamy sweet, but not too sweet, strawberry chocolate flavor. Never have I tasted such a delicious blend of strawberry and chocolate flavored candy where neither the chocolate nor the strawberry are overpowering the other.
I loved these growing up and I continue to love them now!

I love going to stores and unexpectedly finding new flavors or new editions of all-time classic candies. Today, I was shopping at Walmart when I came across new Skittles at the checkout counter. They are called Fizzl’d Fruits and are found in a dark blue Skittles wrapper. With the same five, fruity flavors as the Wild Berry Skittles, the Fizzl’d Fruits Skittles consist of Berry Punch, Melon Berry, Raspberry, Strawberry, and Wild Cherry.
Super excited to try these new Fizzl’d Fruits Skittles, I looked in the bag and found that they look similar to Sour Skittles. But instead of sour sugar crystals, these Fizzl’d Skittles have a powder coating that provide a fizzy sensation. The more powder, the more fizzy the sensation. For instance, I ate one that barely had powder on it, and it tasted just like I was eating a regular Skittle from the Wild Berry Skittles variety. Then I ate one with a lot of powder coating, and I was instantly hit with a jolt of fizziness. By fizziness, I mean a one to two second delightful, tingling sensation on the tongue similar to a mild soda fizz. You only notice it if you initally suck on the Skittle, but if you just go straight to chewing you most likely will not notice a difference.
If you like the Wild Berry Skittles, then you will love these Fizzl’d Fruits Skittles. It essentially is a bag of Wild Berry Skittles with a twist. Although I like every flavor in this bag, I do feel that the company could have come up with an entirely new line of flavors for this Fizzl’d Fruits edition. Maybe a fizzl’d fruity soda edition with flavors such as grape soda, melon soda, strawberry soda, etc? Even with the repetitive flavors, 50 cents for one bag is well worth it for these yummy Fizzl’d Fruits Skittles.

Now here is another review of a Colombian candy. This one is called Turrón Supercoco. The packaging has a green and yellow design with a picture of a coconut on the front. According to the bag, the candy contains 100% natural pieces of coconut. Although I am not a huge fan of coconut flavored anything, I am all about using natural ingredients.
Inside the bag, there are 50 rectangular candy pieces, or as the bag describes them, “Turrones.” I unwrapped my first piece and immediately smelled the coconut. I popped it in my mouth and could taste somewhat of a sweet, sugary, caramel like flavor. The coconut flavor was also present, but became more obvious after sucking on the candy for awhile. Surprisingly, I actually thought the flavor was pretty good. However, the texture could use a little work. It starts off as this solid rectangular candy, but after sucking on it, the coconut pieces start to appear and the texture goes from a smooth surface to a rough one. The coconut pieces are similar to hardened grated coconut pieces and while they may be good on dessert, they are not as appealing in these Turrones. I especially did not like being left with coconut pieces in the back of my throat.
Overall, I would have to say these Turrón Supercoco candies are all right. The flavor is fine, but the texture could be better. Rather than sucking on the candy, I found that chewing on the candy worked out better for me. Do note that the texture does not necessarily make these candies soft chews, it will take some effort to get into it. For me, chewing on the candy disguised the hardened coconut pieces, so I was left to merely enjoy the taste of the sugary, coconut flavor.

I was at the mall last week and I stopped by the Sweet Factory. For those of you who don’t know what the Sweet Factory is, it is a candy store usually found in a mall, with a large selection of goodies. You grab a bag and fill it with whichever candies you want and pay per pound. So, I was with my brother and we each grabbed a bag to fill with candy. My bag, of course, consisted of sour candy, mainly sour belts and sour cherries. Our total candy combined came out to about $14; which I found ridiculous considering how it didn’t seem like we had that much candy.
First of all, these belts are multi-colored with red, yellow, green, and blue. The red is strawberry, the yellow is banana, the green is apple, and the blue is blue raspberry. The flavors are not distinct enough to pick out when you bite into it, but together they taste delicious. To top it off, the entire belt is covered with sour crystals. When you bite off a piece, you get that initial sourness, and then it turns into a really yummy fruity, sweetness. Hands down, this is the best sour belt flavor out there.
I absolutely fell in love with the Fantasy Sour Belts. Don’t get me wrong, I have had these sour belts in the past, but I had forgotten just how good they were. I quickly finished off what little sour belts I had, and went on an Internet hunt for more. That led me to Sweet Factory’s website where I found that they sell candies in bulk. So yes, I gave in and bought a huge tub of Fantasy Sour Belts. A 4.1 pound tub of Fantasy Sour Belts to be exact!
I ordered my gigantic tub of Fantasy Sour Belts on Friday night and they came in the mail the following Tuesday. For standard shipping, I was surprised but extremely happy to have my candy so soon. One thing I did notice is that the Fantasy Sour Belts I bought from the actual store were sourer than the ones I received in the mail. Oh well, I guess it’s one of those “luck of the draw” type of things. In the end, I am still really happy with my Fantasy Sour Belts. How could I not be, when I have this huge tub of sour belts that will last me forever? =D

Whenever I shop for new candy, I usually go for candy with wrappers that look visually appealing to me. This Guylian Dark Orange chocolate bar caught my eye, not by its tempting wrapper, but because of three words: “No Sugar Added.” Instead of sugar, the Guylian bar is sweetened with maltitol (aka Maltisweet), which is a sugar substitute that has fewer calories. However, don’t be fooled, the bar still isn’t good for your diet and excessive consumption of maltitol can have a laxative effect. Personally, I have been working through an entire Guylian Dark Orange bar and so far, no complications =D
Now on to the flavor. The dark chocolate itself isn’t bitter nor is it sweet. Whenever I eat it though, I taste a slight bitterness which I think comes from the orange flavoring. The orange flavor can make the chocolate taste bitterer than it really is. At first, I wasn’t a fan of this chocolate bar. Even the orange scent coming from the bar wasn’t appealing to me.
In the end, the Guylian Dark Orange bar slowly grew on me. I still don’t think orange and chocolate make the best combination, but it isn’t absolutely disgusting either. At $3.59, the Guylian bar is pretty darn pricey. For the same price, I could easily find another chocolate bar more suited for me.
