hawaiian punch jelly beans 1Hawaiian Punch was one of my classic, childhood drinks. I loved it! I remember buying them in both little juice packs and in cans. Nowadays, they also come packaged in big juice bottles. In the candy world, Brach’s has jumped on the Hawaiian Punch train to bring us Hawaiian Punch Jelly Beans! The bag costs just under $3 and comes packed with six flavors:

Orange Ocean

The Orange Ocean jelly bean is… orange of course! I for one think the flavor sounds cute. Taste-wise, it isn’t anything special. It just tastes like a plain ol’ orange jelly bean.

Fruit Juicy Red

This is the Juicy Fruit Red flavor and just like it sounds, it is red. The name of the flavor doesn’t really describe what flavor it is supposed to be and tasting it doesn’t help much either. The flavor isn’t unpleasant, but it isn’t good either.

Berry Blue Typhoon

The Berry Blue Typhoon jelly bean is blue speckled with purple. It is also a berry flavor, but more of a blue raspberry flavor. It’s decent, but far from being my favorite.

Green Berry Rush

For the Green Berry Rush flavor, the jelly bean is light green with blue speckles. Unlike the previous two flavors, this one was delicious! It’s a berry flavor with a tropical hint to it.

Mango Passionfruit Squeeze

The Mango Passionfruit Squeeze, looks-wise, is the exact opposite of the Lemon Berry Squeeze. It is yellow with pink speckles. The mango and passionfruit flavors really pop in this jelly bean. Compared to the Lemon Berry Squeeze, the Mango Passionfruit Squeeze looks better but doesn’t taste as good.

Lemon Berry Squeeze

The Lemon Berry Squeeze jelly bean is pink with yellow speckles. The lemon really stands out and the addition of the berry flavor makes this jelly bean stand out.

hawaiian punch jelly beans 2All in all, this is a decent bag of jelly beans. The Fruit Juicy Red, Orange Ocean and Berry Blue Typhoons are boring flavors compared to the other three. They seem very plain and don’t stand out in the bag. The Green Berry Rush flavor is my favorite and the Lemon Berry Squeeze comes in close second. If I could buy a bag with just those flavors, I would. Since I can’t, I really don’t see myself buying another bag of these Hawaiian Punch Jelly Beans.

baskin-robbins soft candy very berry strawberry and mint chocolate chipI am lactose intolerant and although Lactaid products are my friend, I thought these Baskin-Robbins Soft Candy were a genius idea. A quick look at the ingredients and in bold I see “CONTAINS MILK.” Haha. Dairy never hides from us lactose intolerant people.

I have tried Baskin-Robbins Hard Candy in mint chocolate chip, but I have never seen the soft candy line. I found two soft candy flavors – mint chocolate chip and very berry strawberry. Both are really good ice cream flavors, but how would they taste as soft candy chews?

baskin-robbins soft candy very berry strawberryStarting with the Baskin-Robbins Very Berry Strawberry Soft Candy. Inside the box is roughly 20 pieces, individually wrapped in a shiny silver wrapper with the Baskin-Robbins logo all over it. The soft chews themselves are pink speckled with red. If you’ve had the ice cream, you’ll know the ice cream is also pink with red strawberry pieces mixed in. The strawberry flavor is actually pretty good and reminds me of the flavor (not texture) of Strawberry Hi-Chew. The texture of these Baskin-Robbins Soft Candy is what ruins it for me as I find it too soft.

Baskin-Robbins Very Berry Strawberry Soft Candy – Rating: ★★★☆☆

baskin-robbins soft candy mint chocolate chipThe Baskin-Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip Soft Candy are packaged in the same wrappers as the very berry strawberry flavor. The candy is green with black dots all over similar to the look of mint chocolate chip ice cream. The black dots, of course, represent the chocolate chips. The flavor tastes like mint chocolate chip, but again, the texture is what throws it off. Although decent overall, I think the mint chocolate chip hard candy tastes better.

Baskin-Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip Soft Candy – Rating: ★★★☆☆

I bought both boxes on sale at 35 cents each. Overall, they’re just average. They both smell extremely delicious, but the taste and texture don’t live up to the ice cream. Let’s face it though, nothing would taste as good as the actual ice cream.

Frosty Nerds

In: Fruity| Nestle

4 Dec 2009

frosty nerds 1On with the Christmas candy… Frosty Nerds. I love Christmas themed candy and this one really caught my eye. The box is covered with red Nerds and has three flavors listed – Watermelon, Wild Cherry, and Punch. On the back of the box is a little message from the Wonka Company that reads “Greetings to you from Willy Wonka himself! Tremendous things are in store for you! Many tasty treats await you! Inside this Scrumdiddlyumptious package you will find mystic and marvelous surprises that will entrance, intrigue & delight you beyond measure.” Haha I love it! Let’s see if it holds true.

frosty nerds 2The top-left side of the box has a tab that you can open to pour the nerds out and tuck in to close. Because the box is completely covered with red Nerds, I had assumed the three flavors would all be red and it would be a surprise as to which flavor Nerd you would actually be eating. However, upon lifting the tab, I saw not only red Nerds, but green and white also. Definitely a lot prettier than I had imagined. I looked at the box again and realized that there were seven red, green, and white Nerds that I had not noticed before. They are really cute too since the seven Nerds are wearing Christmas hats, scarves or winter hats =D

frosty nerds 3The watermelon, wild cherry and punch flavors are really good. If you pick out each color, you can taste the difference between the three flavors. Of the three, I would say the Wild Cherry flavor is the most pronounced and best tasting. All together, they taste like tangy, delicious Nerds. I agree with the box and say this makes a great stocking stuffer! Great Christmas candy for only 99 cents =D

pop rocks candy cane 1The last thing that comes to mind this holiday is Pop Rocks, yet this adventurous candy company mixed candy canes and pop rocks to bring us… Candy Cane Pop Rocks! For those of you who don’t know what Pop Rocks are, just imagine hard candy smashed into thousands of pieces that pop and crackle in your mouth.

I opened a packet and saw white and red colored Pop Rocks. Just by looking at it, I could almost taste how good the Candy Cane Pop Rocks would be. I leaned my head back, took a “swig,” and instead of immediate happiness, I paused. What? Cherry? I tasted cherry, but was sure that I had to be wrong. pop rocks candy cane 2So I tossed more in my mouth and the disappointment really sunk in. I felt betrayed. They tasted nothing like candy canes. In fact, they tasted exactly like their original Strawberry Pop Rocks.

For a pack of three, these cost a little over a buck. I rate it a two merely for the false advertisement. Sure, they are Pop Rocks and they did indeed pop in my mouth, but there was no hint whatsoever of a candy cane flavor. Take my advice, pass on these “Candy Cane” Pop Rocks (especially if you’ve already tried the strawberry flavor).

wonka kazoozles cherry punch 1Kazoozles, another Wonka brand candy with an interesting name. Similar to Twizzlers Sweet and Sour Filled Twists, these Kazoozles are also rope candy with fillings. There are two flavors – Cherry Punch and Pink Lemonade. Never failing to bring out the kid in everyone, the description on the wrapper reads “delickoricious chewy candy.”

wonka kazoozles cherry punch 2First off, the Cherry Punch Kazoozles. Each package comes with two red cherry flavored ropes with blue punch filling. The cherry rope has a perfect chewy consistency; not too hard and not too soft. I could easily chew it without it getting stuck to my teeth. The punch filling looks gooey and sticky, but practically melts in your mouth. Together, the Cherry Punch Kazoozles are absolutely “delickoricious.” They are like fruit snacks, but better.

Cherry Punch Kazoozles - Rating: ★★★★☆

wonka kazoozles pink lemonade 1The Pink Lemonade Kazoozles contain two lemon ropes with pink cherry filling. They look exactly like the Cherry Punch Kazoozles except the pink lemonade version has sour sugar crystals sprinkled all over it. Don’t let that fool you though; the crystals make it more tangy than sour. Nothing on the wrapper says it’s supposed to be sour, so I can’t really be mad at that. Overall, the Pink Lemonade Kazoozles taste good, can be a bit messy due to the sugar crystals.

Pink Lemonade Kazoozles - Rating: ★★★☆☆

Both were pretty tasty but I prefer the cherry punch over the pink lemonade for two reasons. First, the Cherry Punch Kazoozles aren’t as messy as the sugar covered Pink Lemonade Kazoozles. Second, the flavor of the cherry rope speaks to the cherry fruit roll-up lover in me. For 69 cents each, you can’t really go wrong with either of them.
