hawaiian punch jelly beans 1Hawaiian Punch was one of my classic, childhood drinks. I loved it! I remember buying them in both little juice packs and in cans. Nowadays, they also come packaged in big juice bottles. In the candy world, Brach’s has jumped on the Hawaiian Punch train to bring us Hawaiian Punch Jelly Beans! The bag costs just under $3 and comes packed with six flavors:

Orange Ocean

The Orange Ocean jelly bean is… orange of course! I for one think the flavor sounds cute. Taste-wise, it isn’t anything special. It just tastes like a plain ol’ orange jelly bean.

Fruit Juicy Red

This is the Juicy Fruit Red flavor and just like it sounds, it is red. The name of the flavor doesn’t really describe what flavor it is supposed to be and tasting it doesn’t help much either. The flavor isn’t unpleasant, but it isn’t good either.

Berry Blue Typhoon

The Berry Blue Typhoon jelly bean is blue speckled with purple. It is also a berry flavor, but more of a blue raspberry flavor. It’s decent, but far from being my favorite.

Green Berry Rush

For the Green Berry Rush flavor, the jelly bean is light green with blue speckles. Unlike the previous two flavors, this one was delicious! It’s a berry flavor with a tropical hint to it.

Mango Passionfruit Squeeze

The Mango Passionfruit Squeeze, looks-wise, is the exact opposite of the Lemon Berry Squeeze. It is yellow with pink speckles. The mango and passionfruit flavors really pop in this jelly bean. Compared to the Lemon Berry Squeeze, the Mango Passionfruit Squeeze looks better but doesn’t taste as good.

Lemon Berry Squeeze

The Lemon Berry Squeeze jelly bean is pink with yellow speckles. The lemon really stands out and the addition of the berry flavor makes this jelly bean stand out.

hawaiian punch jelly beans 2All in all, this is a decent bag of jelly beans. The Fruit Juicy Red, Orange Ocean and Berry Blue Typhoons are boring flavors compared to the other three. They seem very plain and don’t stand out in the bag. The Green Berry Rush flavor is my favorite and the Lemon Berry Squeeze comes in close second. If I could buy a bag with just those flavors, I would. Since I can’t, I really don’t see myself buying another bag of these Hawaiian Punch Jelly Beans.

frys turkish delight 1
A milk chocolate bar with a jelly center is what best describes Fry’s Turkish Delight. What flavor jelly, you ask? Good question. Unfortunately, glancing at the wrapper provides no answer. The only clues its purple wrapper present are that it is “full of Eastern promise” and that it is “as good as ever”, which one would hopefully assume given that the bar has been in existence since 1914 (more on that later). The mystery behind the Turkish Delight was enough for me to want to try it.

frys turkish delight 2The Fry’s Turkish Delight bar consists of a thick layer of red/purple jelly surrounded by a thin layer of milk chocolate. The jelly, to me, has the perfect consistency since it is soft and chewy. After taking a bite, I still had no idea what the jelly flavor was. So with the help of my friend, Google, I was able to find out that the jelly is flavored with Otto of Roses, which is basically rose oil. Further research reveals that the Fry’s Turkish Delight was invented in 1914 by J.S. Fry & Sons. The company later merged with Cadbury but kept the candy’s original name. The bar itself, at 1.8 ounces, is really small for a bar of chocolate. I would equate it to the size of about two fun-size Snickers bars.

frys turkish delight 3I bought the Fry’s Turkish Delight bar for $1.61. A little pricey for such a small bar of chocolate. At first, I was not a fan of this bar, but after several bites, it started to grow on me. It’s actually not bad. I especially like the uniqueness of it. When do you ever see chocolate bars with jelly centers or rose flavored candy?

tangy zangy sour sticks 1I was browsing for some sour candy online and came across the Tangy Zangy website. They are not sold in many places, but my boyfriend was kind enough to find Tangy Zangy Sour Sticks for me at Winn Dixie. Although there are various flavors, the only one he could find was Green Apple.

On the bag is a cute apple character with huge eyes and pursed lips to indicate that the candy is sour. Inside the bag, you’ll find a party going on with fruit sticks and sour crystals galore. The sticks are almost completely covered in sour crystals and look like Sour Punch Straws, except they aren’t hollow like the straws.

tangy zangy sour sticks 2I was honestly expecting these to taste just like Sour Punch Straws, but when I took my first bite, I was actually taken back by the sourness. Don’t get me wrong, this was a good thing. I love really sour candy and this was definitely sourer than Sour Punch Straws. It’s sour enough to cause your tongue to go numb a bit, especially if you eat too much in one session. So, be sure to take it easy! Now, if only I could find other flavors to try…

warheads qbz sour fruit chews 1As a fan of sour candy, I’ve always liked Warheads. So of course, I had to try out the new Warheads QBZ Sour Fruit Chews. There are four flavors in the box which are Green Apple, Strawberry, Blue Raspberry, and Watermelon. If you weren’t already aware, Warheads candies usually have a sour meter on the packaging to rate how sour the candies are. The rating system is as follows: Tart, Sour, Super Sour, and Extreme. These QBZ Sour Fruit Chews, in particular, have a “Sour” rating.

warheads qbz sour fruit chews 2The Warheads QBZ Sour Fruit Chews look like sugar cubes except in different colors. They are really chewy and are covered in sour crystals. However, they only have a hint of sourness, so even if you are not a fan of sour candy, you still might find these enjoyable. Usually with different flavored candy there’s a flavor that stands out more than the rest, but I couldn’t pick out a favorite from this bunch. They’re all pretty decent tasting, but not sour enough for my taste.

warheads qbz sour fruit chews 3The QBZ Sour Fruit Chews were only $1.49 so they are definitely worth trying out for yourselves. Sour candies generally have sour crystals that accumulate at the bottom of the bag, but I was disappointed to find that this bag didn’t! I really do hope they come out with a more sour version that’ll bump these QBZ Fruit Chews to the “Extreme” category and leave me sour crystals to enjoy at the end. Maybe they can even throw in the Black Cherry flavor from the original Warheads hard candy. So come on Warheads, make me happy!

chewy lemonhead 1Happy first day of Fall everyone!  Can’t wait for the weather to get cooler =D

I was at World Market and came across this Chewy Lemonhead & Friends Candy.  Now, I have always been a fan of Ferrara Pan’s Lemonheads, Cherryheads, Appleheads and Orangeheads but I mainly ate them for the outer sour shells and not for the hard candy on the inside.   Not ever thinking they would make other variations, I was surprised to find Chewy Lemonhead & Friends Candy at the store.  It costs about $1.49 and contains five flavors from the originals: Lemonhead, Grapehead, Orangehead, Cherryhead, and Applehead.

chewy lemonhead 2I’ve never had the original Grapeheads, but these chewy Grapeheads are delicious.  Eating them brought me back to my childhood days when I was obsessed with Grape Kool-Aid.  Seriously, if you like Grape Kool-Aid, Grapeheads are for you.  The other flavors – Lemonhead, Cherryhead, Orangehead & Applehead – tasted just like the originals but in chewy form.  They all had delightful, slightly sour outer shells and chewy, jelly insides.

chewy lemonhead 3This box of Chewy Lemonhead & Friends Candy was really good.  I liked how the box had the entire variety of “fruit”head flavors.  Made with real fruit juice, my only wish is that the juice I drink is as sour and yummy as these.  If you liked at least one of Ferrara Pan’s original “fruit” heads, you would definitely love these.  Especially if you are like me and was never a fan of the hard candy centers.  On the other hand, if you’ve never had any of the original Lemonhead, Applehead, Cherryhead, Orangehead, or Grapehead candies, this would be a great box to start with since it has all the flavors in one box.
