I have been wanting to try Cow Tales but never managed to find them at the store. That is, until I spotted Mini Vanilla Cow Tales at the Dollar Tree. They are made by Goetze’s Candy Company which is known for their caramel candy. They have several flavors of Cow Tales available – Vanilla, Strawberry, Chocolate and Caramel Apple. The Mini Cow Tales are miniature versions of the vanilla flavor.
The Mini Vanilla Cow Tales I found are individually wrapped in an orange, theater sized candy box. Shaped like short Slim Jims, they are made up of chewy caramel with a vanilla cream center. I expected them to be really sweet, but surprisingly they weren’t. You can definitely eat a couple of them without overloading on sweetness. With every bite, the softness of the inner vanilla cream is the first to fade away, leaving you with the chewy caramel. The texture of the caramel is not one to be desired as it seems to be rolled in corn starch to keep the chewy caramel from being too sticky.
Overall, the Mini Vanilla Cow Tales are okay. I like that the floury texture keeps the Mini Vanilla Cow Tales from sticking to my teeth, but it still doesn’t leave a pleasant feeling in my mouth. After eating more and more, I do feel they are slowly growing on me. While I am still not sure if I will be buying more of the Mini Vanilla Cow Tales, I am definitely going to keep my eye out for the Strawberry Cow Tales which sound delicious!
