I was browsing through the chocolate aisle and spotted this candy from a company I have never heard of before. The company is called Jo’s Candies and the chocolates I bought are their Holiday Peppermint Crunch. The packaging of these chocolates is really interesting. Two Holiday Peppermint Crunch chocolates are placed on a small tray which is then wrapped with clear plastic. So basically, this company went the “you get what you see” route and you know exactly what your chocolates will look like before you buy them. Genius idea if you ask me.
Being able to see the actual chocolates is what really lured me to these chocolates. Not only because I thought it was an interesting way to package chocolates, but because I saw dark chocolates with ground peppermint candy sprinkled on top. Immediately I thought about candy canes and bought some. However, do note that only the top of the chocolates are visible, and because of the minimal packaging, I really had no idea what the inside of these chocolates looked like.
Now for the moment of truth. What exactly is inside these chocolates? With my first bite, I was delighted to see it was not only pretty on the outside but also very pretty on the inside. Inside is a thick pink layer consisting of white chocolate, peppermint oil and ground peppermint candy. The pink layer looks hard, but it really isn’t when you bite into it. There is however a pleasant crunch resulting from the crushed peppermint candy.
The Holiday Peppermint Crunch chocolates are the perfect Christmas chocolates. The only drawback is the price. Price tag was $1.34…kinda pricey for only two pieces.
