Topps Company, which is famous for candy such as Push Pops and Ring Pops, made this new candy called Wazoo. They come in two fruity flavors, Wild Berriez and Blue Razz. What makes these unique is that they are actual candy bars devoid of any chocolate. Think of a fruity version of a 3 Musketeers Bar.
When I first opened these up and saw how pretty they looked, I have to say I was really excited to taste them. I mean, they were so colorful! The Wild Berriez Wazoo has a purple outer layer and its center is divided into two colors, pink and yellow. It is topped off with what they call “crunchies,” which are blue, yellow, red and pink sprinkles. On the other hand, the Blue Razz Wazoo has the same crunchies, but it has a blue and pink filling wrapped in a outer blue layer.
I tried the Wild Berriez Wazoo first and it was different, to say the least. I took a bite and I still half expected to taste chocolate. There was no chocolate taste of course, but instead, there was this chewy fruity, not-so-yummy taste. The purple outer layer didn’t melt in my hand, but it was soft to chew and melted in my mouth. The pink and yellow filling was chewy but not really sticky as they didn’t stick to my teeth. All together, I kept trying to like this candy, but could not. However, one good thing about this candy is the sprinkles. On their own, they tasted pretty good, but with the candy bar, it got lost in Wazoo’s “unique” flavor.
After that first Wazoo bar, I was dreading the thought of eating the second one. Although after I bit into the Blue Razz Wazoo, I was surprised that it didn’t taste too bad. As soon the outer blue layer melted, it tasted like a soft, chewy raspberry flavored Starburst. Even so, I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I liked this Blue Razz Wazoo bar. If anything, it was a slight improvement from the Wild Berriez Wazoo.
All in all, these Wazoo bars looked delicious, but they really didn’t live up to its look. If you’re still curious about them, definitely go for the Blue Razz flavor. Both cost around $0.79 each. After trying these, candy bars really should just stick to being chocolate.
Moral of this review: Looks, even with candy, can be deceiving.
